Dissertation guidance

Individual class shall be made for sure with advisory professor by at least 12 weeks per one semester and the dissertation for academic degree shall be submitted at the last semester.

• 1) Period to appoint dissertation guidance professor: designated period at the 2nd semester for doctor in Ministry, at the 4th semester for doctor in True Parents Theology
• 2) How to apply for dissertation guidance professor: It is to apply for after logging in on the academic information system within the corresponding period of appointment of dissertation guidance professor and then pressing graduation & dissertation > application for advisory professor > selection of professor > registration, and be completed at the time of advisory professor’s approval.
• 3) Application for dissertation guidance: to apply for taking lecture for sure of Doctoral Dissertation Guidance Ⅰ, Ⅱ during the last two semesters

Qualification exam for dissertation submission

• 1) Exam on major
  • (1) courses for exam: to apply for after discussion with professor of corresponding courses by selecting 4 courses out of the courses that have been taken
  • (2) qualification to take an exam:
    - doctor in Ministry: the person who has completed in registration at the 3rd semester
    - doctor in True Parents Theology: the person who has completed in registration at the 5th semester
  • (3) time period to take an exam: time period that the school determines, around in 30 days in the beginning of every semester
  • (4) how to take an exam: to apply for exam courses by selecting Graduation & dissertation > Application for comprehensive exam > Registration and fill out and submit the application form for exam on major.
  • (5) points to recognize pass: It shall be made of at least 80 points out of 100 points in full.
  • (6) re-exam: It’s possible to retake an exam within the scope not exceeding the time limit in the event of failure.

• 2) Others
  • (1) Foreign language exam: It shall be made of pass by selecting 1 foreign language (Korean/ Japanese/ English/ Chinese/ French/ Spanish) excluding native language, or submitting the officially certified grade of the selected foreign language. (Effective period of exempted exam shall be limited in 2 years based on the date of application for exam.)

  • (2) publication at academic journal: pointing system of paper publication (publication at accredited journal/candidate journal for accreditation: 100 points per a piece, publication at non-accredited journal: 50 points per a piece)
    -at least 50 points for doctor in Ministry, at least 100 points for doctor in True Parents Theology
  • (3) academic presentation: 1 time of on-campus or off-campus academic presentation

Submission of dissertation for academic degree

• 1) Qualification to submit
  • - One should pass qualification exam to submit dissertation.
  • - the person who has registered at least 4 semesters for doctor in Ministry, registered at least 6 semesters for doctor in True Parents Theology and obtained credit points to fit graduation requirements
• 2) Outline presentation (presentation of research plan of dissertation for academic degree)
  • - time period to apply for: One shall apply for within certain date determined at the school, at least at the 3rd semester (Ministry), the 5th semester (True Parents Theology) when registration is completed.
  • - how to apply for: to apply for at Graduation & dissertation > Outline presentation of dissertation for academic degree after preparing research plan of dissertation for academic degree and then obtaining confirmation (signature) of advisory professor
  • outline presentation: to present mainly based on dissertation research plan while professor and student of master’s/doctoral course are attending at the designated specific date
• 3) Open presentation (application for examination of dissertation for academic degree)
  • - time period to apply for: to apply for within the designated certain date as the person with at least the 4th semester of doctoral course in Ministry, at least the 6th semester of doctoral course in True Parents Theology who has prepared dissertation by being equipped with the form of dissertation under guidance of advisory professor after outline presentation

  • - how to apply for: One shall apply for examination of dissertation for academic degree at the menu of graduation & dissertation of the academic system after filling out the application form for examination of dissertation for academic degree and then obtaining confirmation (signature) of advisory professor. One shall submit separately to Academic Affairs & Students Office 3 copies of dissertation for preliminary examination (mandatorily spring binding) and a summary of dissertation (at least 5 sides by A4).
    (the summary of dissertation: including cover of dissertation, table of contents, abstract in Korean, preface, conclusion, reference books)
  • - open presentation: One shall present open presentation mainly based on the summary of dissertation after self introduction
    (course, academic department, number of semester, name) while professor and the student of master’s/doctoral course are attending at the designated certain date.
  • - dissertation examination fee: ￦500 thousands
• 4) The 1st round of main examination

  : Advisory professor and examining members conduct by having the student attend on the date of examination after correcting, supplementing the matters that were pointed out at the time of open presentation, preparing the table of dissertation correction, the statement of plagiarism test of dissertation at most 10% and 5 copies of dissertation for examination, obtaining approval of advisory professor, and then submitting to examining professors.

• 5) The 2nd round of main examination:

  Advisory professor and examining members conduct by having the student attend on the date of examination after correcting, supplementing the matters that were pointed out at the time of the 1st round of main examination, preparing the table of dissertation correction, the statement of plagiarism test of dissertation at most 10% and 5 copies of dissertation for examination, obtaining approval of advisory professor, and then submitting to examining professors.

• 6) The final examination & determination of the person who is passed:

  Only advisory professor and examining members attend and examine on the date of examination after correcting, supplementing the matters that were pointed out at the time of the 2nd round of main examination, preparing the table of dissertation correction, the statement of plagiarism test of dissertation at most 10% and 5 copies of dissertation for examination, obtaining approval of advisory professor, and then submitting to examining professors.

  • - examination evaluation: It shall make pass in the event of obtaining at least 80 points with having 100 points in full from at least 4 people of examining members including advisory professor.
  • - re-examination: The person who has been judged non-pass at the main examination can get re-examination after passing at least 1 semester limited to 1 time by correcting, supplementing.
• 7) Binding of dissertation for academic degree

  to apply for as many as needed (number of copies for binding = 5 copies for submitting to library + number of copies needed individually + number of copies for presenting to professors) in making dissertation for academic degree through the Web-sites of binding of dissertation such as Booktory (www.booktory.com), the cost to be subject to change depending on pages of dissertation and number of copies.

• 8) Submission of dissertation for academic degree
  • ⅰ) place to submit: library
  • ⅱ) period to submit: within 20 days of completion of examination on dissertation
  • ⅲ) how to submit:
    a. a file of original text & 5 copies of published dissertation (including 3 copies of the book with in-person handwriting signature of examination professors)
    b. to submit the form of agreement on usage of dissertation for academic degree
    c. to submit to Academic Affairs & Students Office after getting issued of confirmation letter of dissertation submission
